UK— Former Market Research Society president and chairman Andrew McIntosh, Lord McIntosh of Haringey, died on Friday aged 77 after a battle with cancer.
McIntosh, a Labour peer, started his career in the market research industry in the 1950s with Gallup before moving to IFF Research in 1965 as managing director, where he stayed until 1997 and served as both chairman and deputy chairman.
Between 1963 and 1967 McIntosh edited the journal of the Market Research Society before becoming the society’s chairman between 1972 and 1973 and president between 1995 and 1998.
During his political career he was the leader of the Labour group on the former Greater London Council from 1980 to 1981 before moving on to become deputy leader of the opposition in the Lords between 1992 and 1997 and deputy government chief whip from 1997 to 2003.
In 2003 and at the age of 70 he was appointed Minister for Heritage and the Media under Tessa Jowell.
