UK – Social media giant Meta has named Derya Matras as vice-president for Europe, Middle East and Africa, replacing Angie Gifford, who is leaving the role at the end of the year.
Matras (pictured) joined Meta in 2015 and has led the business in Africa, Turkey and the Middle East.
Prior to Meta, Matras held leadership roles in media, retail and management consulting, primarily at McKinsey & Company.
In her new role, Matras will also take on additional responsibilities for the UK and Northern Europe, taking the number of countries she oversees for Meta to more than 80.
Matras will join Meta global head of global business group Nicola Mendelsohn’s leadership team immediately, and will assume full responsibilities in December, working closely with Gifford in transitioning into the new role.
Mendelsohn said: “Since she joined Meta in 2015, Derya has become a leader known for putting people first. Derya has deep industry expertise, makes data-driven decisions, and has skilfully built and led diverse markets.
“What really drives Derya is helping businesses grow and creating more opportunities for people everywhere. I am thrilled to see her take on this new role.”
