US— Kathy Pilhuj, Scarborough Research’s senior vice president of data collection has died aged 61. She had been hospitalised since the end of July, the firm said.
Pilhuj’s main responsibility at the joint venture between Nielsen and Arbitron was to manage the firm’s two telephone call centres and she was also in charge of the programming, IT and data collection teams.
She spent 23 years at the company and also chaired multiple committees for the Council for Marketing and Opinion Research and the Marketing Research Association (MRA). In June this year Pilhuj was awarded the MRA Award for Excellence.
Scarborough’s EVP of research and analytics Dan Mallet said: “Kathy had great energy and passion and was a respected manager, an inspiring mentor and a compassionate friend. She will be missed by all of us who had the great fortune of working with her.”
She is survived by her husband Gene, children Nick and Kate and grandchildren Ariel and Daniel.

What a shame to hear about Kathy's passing. She was always such a warm and loving person. It's a huge loss for the marketing research industry and for anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

I was quite saddened to hear of Kathy's passing. I had the pleasure of working for her at Scarborough in Sarasota. She was very professional, and yet warm at the same time. Her knowledge was staggering. She remains the only person I have ever known who had a photographic memory. She touched the lives of many people and will be missed by all.
