AUSTRIA— Uma, a semantic web technology firm which offers both media analysis and search capabilities, has been awarded $1.1m in a round of funding from investment firm TheMerger.com and private European investors.
The firm said that the cash would be used to help it move “more aggressively” into the digital signage market with its multi-touch display system, Uma Skin, which integrates a semantic web content curation engine for information delivery. Personalised content is possible as the display tracks users with RFID and near-field communications technology and detects motion using 3D sensor cameras.
Meanwhile, Uma has appointed Heinrich Schuster and Oliver Holle as board members. Schuster was the founder and chairman of out-of-home advertising firm Epamedia while Holle is currently CEO at TheMerger.com.
Uma founder and CEO Christian Doegl said: “Our new board members are well-attuned to market trends in information display, and we are poised for greater growth and market visibility due to their wealth of shared experience.”
