US — The affluent population of the US now has more Generation Xers than Baby Boomers, according to a newly-released survey by Ipsos.
The 2015 Ipsos Affluent Survey USA defines ‘affluent’ as adults living in households with at least $100,000 in annual household income. This group represents 23% of American households, with a median income of $145k and a mean income of $227k.
37% of affluents are Generation Xers (aged 34-50 ), while 33% are Baby Boomers (aged 51-69 ), 25% are Millennials ( 18-33 ) and 5% are Seniors ( 70+). This marks the first time that Generation Xers have outnumbered Baby Boomers in the affluent population.
“We are seeing a true changing of the generational guard in the affluent population,” said Stephen Kraus, chief insights officer at Ipsos. “Long over-looked and under-estimated, Gen Xers now outnumber Boomers among affluents.”
Results are based on a survey of over 15,000 affluent individuals, conducted between January and June 2015. Full findings can be found here.
