US— YouTube is to add data from its Insight statistical service to its Content ID tool, which allows users such as TV broadcasters to identify user-uploaded versions of their videos.
The YouTube Insight services provides users with statistics about who has been watching the videos they upload to the site, with data covering which geographic regions they are viewed in and how popular they are compared to similar videos over a given period of time.
On the firm’s partner and advertiser blog, YouTube said: “Previously, when you claimed a video with Content ID, we were only able to show you basic information (like view counts and tags) associated with the video you claimed. But now, all the statistics and data we share directly with uploaders in YouTube Insight is available to Content ID partners too, making our content management tools more useful than ever – especially for partners whose claimed user videos generate lots of views for them.”
YouTube said that adding Insight data to the Content ID service would prove “very helpful” to users looking to distribute and market their videos by providing information including which websites or search terms drive the most traffic to videos and whether an ‘official’ video uploaded by someone else is viewed by a different demographic.
